”L ucy”
At the time
this picture was taken, she was recovering from her spay surgery –
her sweater keeping her warm and a pillow for comfort. |
“Pete”
He now
lives in the Seattle area with a wonderful caring lady. By his
expression, he seems content in his new red collar.

This matte haired, male, Maltese was constantly wandering the streets of Colusa, he was picked up by the animal control dept. several times. His original owner fled to Mexico in order to avoid paying the citation and going to court.
His new name is
“Duffy”.
He has been neutered and groomed and is smiling for the camera.
He lives in Northern California with his new owner, Betsy. She tells quite a story about Duffy – “Duffy and I left the house to run a brief errand. We returned 15 minutes later and came upon a burglary in progress in my home. I came face to face with a neighbor who entered through the back door. At first I believed he would hit me but dear little Duffy barked and snarled like hell at him and he backed off. He shoveled a few things out of his pockets as Duffy backed him out the door. He ran. I called the police immediately and our little dog stayed at my feet the whole time never once barking at the police. I believe Duffy created enough confusion to spare me from being hurt as he (the burglar) was very desperate. We just love little Duffy more and more everyday.

”Amber”
This Springer Spaniel originally was in a home that neglected her - no exercise, no love. The owner thankfully signed her over to the Colusa County Animal Control Dept. These are the latest photos of Amber in her new home, complete with a swimming pool which she enjoys. She was adopted by a caring family in Northern California. Jerry writes “She is exactly what we were looking for and has fitted into the family as if she had been here for years. She has bonded with all the family and most of the shyness and cowering has vanished. Thank you so much!

"Meet Burney"

This kind hearted yellow lab puppy who was under 6 months old, was the
victim of animal abuse here in the county in June 2005. An observant
and law abiding citizen reported the abuse to the authorities who quickly
rescued him from further abuse. You can read Burney’s full story
here.
Here he is in April 2006,
and
a little over 1 year old. Burney has fit right in with his new family –
he loves to swim in the river, sleeps in the house and “he’s the best dog
ever” his new owner tells us. He doesn’t have any issues, he’s just a
people loving dog. (We are keeping his owner’s name and location
private.)
“Katherine Hepburn”
She was special, we knew that right away, she had such a presence, and the name just fit. She was picked up wandering along the freeway one afternoon. No one claimed her. There are many hunters here in the Fall and Winter, abandoned hunting dogs are not unusual in the county.
We received an e-mail from Kathy up in Seattle, she knew that Katherine Hepburn was that special dog for her. Phone calls were made and a friend volunteered to make the one and a half hour drive to the airport, on a Friday night, in a rainstorm so she could make her flight to Seattle, WA.
“Sophie” “Sophie with her bone”

Katherine is now known as “Sophie”. Her owner tells us that “she has her favorite toys, her chair, trips to the off-leash park where she delights in running among the trees and getting herself caught in blackberry brambles. She gets lots of loving from the other people and pets and enjoys opportunities to lean on people.
