Animal Shelter is open to the public: 

  • Monday  through Friday from 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm. Closed Saturday and Sunday.

Please call 530-458-0247 if you need to make special scheduling arraignments for viewing or picking up a pet for adoption

Our shelter is more than caring for the stray dogs and feral cats that find themselves at the shelter. The list below outlines the additional services and information topics that are available to you. The objectives of the Animal Control section of the Colusa County Sheriff's Office are to:

  • Capture and transport stray animals to the animal shelter.

  • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen's inquires and complaints.

  • Capture and transport injured or potentially rabid animals to the animal shelter or veterinary hospital.

  • Euthanize potentially rabid animals and remove brain for testing.

  • Investigate complaints of dogs, cats, or other animals creating nuisances and take appropriate action to resolve the problem.

  • Investigate and identify livestock damage caused by animals.

  • Investigate reports of animal abuse.

  • Issue citations and warnings of violations of county ordinances.

  • Patrol city streets, county roads, and highways to capture stray domestic animals and/pr livestock from roadways.

  • Respond to calls regarding animal bites and quarantine animals involved.

  • Issue yearly dog licenses, collect fees for licenses, and account for all monies collected.

  • Coordinate with cities within the county to have low-cost rabies clinics and dog licenses.

  • Provide public education regarding animal control, explain ordinances related tot the care and keeping of animals.

  • Respond to assist other law enforcement agencies to remove livestock causing road hazards from freeways and other roadways.

Facts

Colusa County Animal Control is a section of the Colusa County Sheriff's Office. Animal Control provides service throughout the county & is also contracted by the City of Williams and the City of Colusa.  Animal Control Officers (ACO) must have knowledge of various breeds of dogs, cats, and other domestic animals including livestock & brand  identification. ACO's must have adequate knowledge of behavior and symptoms of animal abuse in cats and dogs, as well as livestock.
