FROM THE ACO'S FUNNY BONE:

The ACO had impounded the owner's dog three times.

Owner:  Can I redeem my dog on a payment plan?

2008 - 2009 Dog licenses are due now and are available at the Colusa County Animal Shelter office or by mail.  Click on link above - 1 & 3 year licenses available. 7/1/08

The counter shown below, being updated at the end of every month, will keep a running total on the number of dogs that are rescued and euthanized at the Colusa County Animal Shelter. The “rescued” are those that have been adopted or redeemed by their owners. In a sense, they have been rescued from the shelter.  Our immediate goal is to see that the number of rescued dogs outweigh the euthanized. Our long term goal is not to have the counter because owners will have become responsible - the animals are altered, wearing a name tag, license, rabies tag or have a microchip so they can be returned home.  Figures are January through March 2008 - updates coming soon.

TOTAL FOR 2008

  RESCUED - 86            EUTHANIZED - 53

TOTAL FOR 2007

  RESCUED - 369            EUTHANIZED - 213

TOTAL FOR 2006

  RESCUED - 312            EUTHANIZED - 193

A puppy mill is a mass dog breeding establishment that produces puppies for profit by selling them wholesale to the pet industry. The "parents" are bred continuously. They and their puppies are raised in filthy conditions without the benefit of veterinary care.  Visit this site to learn more about puppy mills and how you can stop them

A microchip will guarantee that your pet is returned to you.

Recently the ACO's picked up a dog,  brought  it to the shelter where they  scanned  him and a microchip was found.  The owner was contacted and was very excited that their dog had been picked up.....the dog had been stolen four months earlier.

Contact your veterinarian for information and microchip implantation.  Remember to keep your phone numbers current.
